Weddings and engagements sessions have taken me all over Virginia and have allowed me to explore some really cool places that I wouldn’t have otherwise! That’s especially the case for Amy and Matt’s engagement session. With all the people I’ve known that have attended Virginia Tech, I can’t believe I have never set foot in Blacksburg until this weekend! And even though I was literally only there for their session, it was a pretty neat visit because we got to go into Lane Stadium all by ourselves!! No big deal!
Britt and Kyle’s engagement session took me back to a place that is not only special to me, but also to them and their love story! The Yorktown Beach area will always have a special place in my heart as it it where I did so many sessions when I first starting my business. The scenery and light that this area provides is part of what fueled my passion for photography! But it’s also special to Britt and Kyle as it is where they got engaged just a few short weeks ago! And we had a gorgeous fall afternoon to stroll the gardens and walk along the beach for their engagement session!
Charlottesville isn’t just wineries and gorgeous mountain-top venues. It’s also home to plenty historic and charming sights like the University of Virginia! Katie and Andrew met during their first year as students and have so many ties to the school that made it the perfect place for their engagement session! Both of Andrew’s parents attended UVA, Katie now works at the university AND they are getting married right across the street next fall! You could say that this place is pretty special to them!
Meghana and Michael officially hold the record for how many times we rescheduled their engagement session due to rain! We just couldn’t catch a break! Shout out to the Norfolk Botanical Gardens for being so accommodating and letting us change our date each time! So when the fourth time came around, we decided we would go for it, rain or no rain! And while we did have some rain, we were able to time it perfectly and work around it!
When you and your couple collectively drive 8+ hours one way so you can have epic mountain views for your engagement session, you cross all your fingers and toes for good weather! We had a gorgeous evening on Skyline Drive for Jordan and Matt’s engagement session! We did a lot of google map searching and research to find the perfect overlook spot for their session and I think we found it at Timber Hollow Overlook! I love that it was an overlook that you could actually walk down into as opposed to just viewing it from the road!
Virginia may be for lovers, but it is also for history lovers! Throw a rock and you’ll hit some important piece of our country’s history. And I honestly never even realized how many historic places there were all around me until I started photography and was shooting at all these places! And one of those sites is Berkeley Plantation- the place where the first Thanksgiving happened in the 1600s! Not to mention, it is also gorgeous!! Give me all the hedges, all structures and manicured gardens!
