It seems like just yesterday that I had this crazy idea to create a photography workshop of my own. An event where I would invite photographers into my home and share all the knowledge and experience I had to offer to whoever wanted to learn it! And now here we are with the second workshop already done! This workshop has brought a whole new passion to this business of mine! 

So you recently started a photography business and it’s taking off! You’re booking all these weddings or sessions and things are going great. Then you shoot those gigs and find yourself buried under a pile of never-ending editing! Staying caught up with editing and feeling like you are spending your whole life behind a computer screen is something that I know a lot of photographers struggle with. But what if I told you that with a little bit of fine-tuning and discipline, you could streamline your workflow to where you could finish an entire wedding in one day?!

One of the downsides to being in a business like this is the lack of security. It’s never a sure thing that the inquiries and bookings will come like you expect them to. And when you’re having a period where the inquiries are slow to roll in, how do you know what the issue is? Are my prices too high? Is my work not good enough?

When Rising Tide Society was first founded 2 years ago, I was interested from the get go. So I started the process of creating and leading a local chapter along with some other fellow creatives. Since then, we’ve had monthly meetings where creatives from all over Hampton Roads gather together to discuss business, network and most importantly- form a community. We now have over 700 people in just our local chapter and it’s growing every day! Watching businesses flourish and genuine friendships form as a result of this community is just surreal! 

One of the perks of putting on a wedding photography workshop is also putting together an amazing styled shoot to go with it! I paired up with my dear and very talented friend, Kelsey, to put together a dreamy southern styled shoot at The Historic Post Office! The April workshop attendees were in for quite a treat when they got to photograph this gorgeous setup! And now that it’s been featured on Inspired By This, I can share the images with you all!!

All of us wedding photogs know this tale. You walk into the getting ready space where you’ll be doing bridal detail photos and your heart drops. There a no surfaces or objects in sight that will provide a good backdrop for photos! The blue carpet and yellow wall hotel room doesn’t exactly flow with your brides blush and gold wedding theme!
