I’ve lived in Virginia my whole life, but I can honestly say that this was the first time I started a session during a freak downpour thunderstorm (even thought the forecast said 0% chance of rain), but then ended it with a golden sunset! Gotta love that Virginia weather! So glad we decided to wait out the storm for Leigh Ann and Josh’s Downtown Norfolk engagement session this weekend! 

Leigh Ann and Josh have actually known of each other since middle school. Josh’s military family moved him all over but still brought him back to Yorktown years down the road where he and Leigh Ann would run into each other again and hit it off. They grew up in the same church and always knew over each other, but had never actually talked to each other until a New Year’s Eve party where they worked up the courage to actually say hi to each other! And the rest was history! Fast forward to a ski strip in Colorado where Josh rented a big truck so they could go off-roading in the mountains to get some long exposure photos of the stars (Leigh Ann is a fellow shutter bug!). He then suggested setting up the camera on the hood of truck so they could get a picture of the two of them. Whenever a guy suggests taking a picture, you know he’s up to something. As they set up the picture, Josh got down on one knee and asked Leigh Ann to spend the rest of their lives together.

And now here we are doing their engagement pictures! Leigh Ann used to work in the Downtown Norfolk area and knew she wanted to do her engagement photos in the super cute Freemason District area- a hidden gem in Norfolk! It’s like a mini-Charleston neighborhood with the beautiful home, wrought iron gates and cobblestone streets. I just love it! And when Leigh Ann told me they’d be bringing two dressy outfits, that was just the cherry on top! Their session started out stormy and very wet, but our patience paid off when the storms passed and the sun came out! A miracle! Can’t wait for their wedding day next June!  The clear umbrella saves the day! These guys were such troopers in the torrential downpour we were shooting in!  After waiting out the storm in our cars, the rain passed and the sun came out for the rest of their session! Woohoo!  How amazing are Leigh Ann’s shoes?! Obsessed!
