Weekend Update

norfolk-virginia-wedding-photographer-obx-photo_0837.jpgThis weekend update is going to look a little different than usual because I did not have a wedding this weekend! What?? After several back to back weddings this season, this break was definitely appreciated! This was also the first weekend that both Branden and I had off in a good while! With the line of work we are each in, we both work a lot of weekends and those weekend schedules don’t always line up nicely. So my weekend off doesn’t often coincide with his weekend off. But every now and then, like this weekend, they do! And it was perfect timing because my family’s annual beach week trip to the OBX was this past week, so we got to spend the weekend in Corolla with my family! So here are my random thoughts and events from the weekend!

  • My mom’s side of the family has been going to the OBX during this same week every year since I was a baby! We usually get houses in the south part of the Outer Banks- Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, etc. But this year we decided to try out Corolla. And I have to be honest, we didn’t really love it. The beaches are wayyy more crowded, there’s not much to do and the traffic getting in and out of Corolla was awful! So for those of you that are die hard Corolla fans, I’m honestly curious- what’s the appeal? Is there something I’m missing?
  • One of the cottages we got this year was a dog-friendly house, so we got to bring the pups! It still blows my mind how many corgi-obsessed people there are out there! I had never even heard of the breed before we got Henry! But it didn’t take long for these two to win over the hearts of everyone staying in our neighborhood. When I brought them onto the beach all the little kids would run to pet them screaming their names!
  • Note to self for the beginning of the summer next year- please try to do a better job at applying sunscreen the first time you’re out in the sun. I’m still trying to fill in funky tan lines from back in April! They just won’t go away!
  • Being the wife of a resident means a lot of time spent alone at home, but the worst is the night shift! This week starts another 4-week stretch of working 5am-5pm 6 nights a week. So that means a lot of lonely nights and going to bed alone. The worst! I don’t know how you military wives do it for months at a time! I usually just bury my head in work to pass the time, but that gets old real quick! Any tips for curbing the loneliness and passing the time??

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!
